Formlabs ESD Resin (Form 4)
A rugged, static-dissipative resin for printing custom ESD-safe tooling, fixtures, and end-use components that protect sensitive electronics from electrostatic discharge — with high stiffness and impact strength for real production environments.
Why Choose Formlabs ESD Resin?
Static-Dissipative Protection
Reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge damaging sensitive components by printing tools and parts with controlled dissipative resistivity.
Production-Line Toughness
High modulus and impact performance for tools, fixtures, and trays that get used (and abused) daily on the factory floor.
Clean, Accurate SLA Output
Print precise nests, alignment features, and contact surfaces to improve consistency and throughput in assembly and handling.
Dust & Powder-Friendly
Static-dissipative parts can help reduce dust attraction, improving handling in electronics and powder-sensitive environments.
Applications
ESD Resin is built for custom ESD-safe parts that endure use in electronics manufacturing, assembly, test, and handling.
Consider ESD Resin for:
- Tooling, jigs & fixtures for electronics assembly and test
- Custom trays for component handling and storage (nests, stackable inserts, reels)
- Anti-static prototypes and end-use components
- Housings and protective covers for sensitive electronics
Tip: For consistent ESD performance, use the recommended post-cure and avoid surface contamination (oils/grease) on contact areas.
Material Properties
*Note: Properties can vary with geometry, orientation, settings, and post-processing. Use manufacturer documentation for validated conditions.
Workflow Overview
ESD Resin is a print + wash + post-cure workflow. Post-curing is essential to achieve final mechanical performance and dissipative properties.
- Print using the ESD Resin preset for your compatible Form 4 printer and selected layer thickness.
- Wash to remove uncured resin (use fresh solvent for best results).
- Post-cure at 70 °C for 60 minutes (validated condition) to reach intended properties and ESD performance.
- Finish contact surfaces as needed (light deburr/sand) while keeping surfaces clean for repeatable ESD behaviour.
FAQ
1) What does “static-dissipative” mean in practice?
It means parts safely dissipate charge buildup through controlled resistivity, helping protect sensitive electronics from sudden discharge events.
2) Do I need to post-cure to get ESD performance?
Yes — ESD Resin is specified post-cured at 70 °C. Skipping or under-curing can reduce both strength and dissipative behaviour.
3) What’s it commonly used for?
Electronics fixtures, trays, nests, housings, and handling tools — anywhere you need durable parts with controlled static dissipation.
