The Bambu Lab Automatic Material System (AMS) is a state-of-the-art filament management system designed to enhance the performance of your 3D printer. Equipped with advanced features such as RFID technology, humidity sensors, and an airtight enclosure, the AMS guarantees smooth filament feeding, automatic mid-print filament switching, and optimal print settings.
The AMS comprises of four filament slots and can be installed in parallel with up to four units, providing ample storage and easy access to multiple filaments. This is especially useful for using snap-away support material or dissolvable filament, making the removal of supports much easier.
Each AMS unit comes with four reusable spools (one high-temperature spool and three low-temperature spools) and is compatible with spools of width 50-68mm and diameter 200mm. For best performance, we recommend using Bambu Filament, which has been thoroughly tested and optimized for use with the AMS.
However, it's important to note that certain materials such as TPE, TPU, or damp PVA should be avoided as they can get stuck in the AMS. Similarly, filament with carbon or glass fibers may be brittle and break inside the AMS or be abrasive and prematurely wear the internal parts. BambuLabs PA-CF and PAHT-CF, however, have been designed and tested to be AMS compatible.
In addition, it's recommended to avoid using cardboard spools with the AMS. The rollers inside the AMS control the rotation of the spools through friction created between the plastic spool edge and the rubber rollers. Cardboard spools provide minimal friction, can tear or have warped edges, and will therefore slip or jam, causing failures or damage to the AMS. It is recommended to print plastic edges that clip onto any cardboard spools available here
The AMS is compatible with X1 Series and P1P 3D printers and comes with a variety of accessories including a filament buffer, bus cables, spare filament cutter, screws, PTFE tube and connector, and an instruction manual.
