Formlabs Durable Resin (Form 4)

A pliable, impact-resistant engineering resin for squeezable parts and low-friction assemblies — ideal when you want polyethylene-like feel and durability with a smooth, production-ready surface.

Formlabs Durable Resin (Form 4) cartridge
Application: Engineering / Prototyping
Technology: SLA
Feel: Pliable + tough
Best for: Low friction + impact
Layer heights: 50–100 µm

Note: Durable Resin performance depends on proper wash + post-cure. Use the validated Formlabs workflow for best results.

Pliable, impact-resistant parts with smooth motion and low wear

Formlabs Durable Resin is designed for functional prototypes that need to bend, flex, and recover — while staying tough under knocks and repeated handling. It’s a go-to material for squeezable prototypes, low-friction assemblies, and jigs & fixtures that see real-world impacts.

Printed parts have low friction, with a feel comparable to polyethylene-like strength and stiffness and friction comparable to Delrin® (POM) — great for sliding features, snap-fits, and non-marring contact surfaces.

Why Choose Formlabs Durable Resin?

Pliable + Impact-Resistant

Designed for parts that flex and absorb bumps — great for functional prototypes, protective features, and fixtures that take knocks.

Low Friction, Low Wear

Ideal for sliding contact and moving features — including low-friction assemblies and non-marring surfaces.

Polyethylene-Like Behaviour

A great option when you want a polyethylene-like balance of toughness and pliability without switching to molded prototypes.

Clean, Reliable SLA Workflow

Print fine features and functional geometry, then wash + post-cure for repeatable, high-performance parts.

Applications

Durable Resin is the most pliable material in the Tough & Durable family — a strong fit for parts that must be squeezed, snapped, or slide smoothly without binding.

Consider Durable Resin for:

  • Squeezable prototypes (grips, compliant housings, ergonomic features)
  • Low-friction assemblies (slides, guides, wear pads, bushings, contact surfaces)
  • Impact-resistant jigs & fixtures (tooling that takes repeated knocks)
  • Non-marring surfaces (parts that touch finished components)

Recommended layer heights: 50 µm or 100 µm.

Workflow Overview

Durable Resin is a print + wash + post-cure workflow. For functional performance and consistent mechanical properties, follow the recommended Formlabs process for cleaning and curing.

  • Print using the Durable Resin preset for your printer and chosen layer height.
  • Wash with the recommended solvent and timings for clean surfaces and accurate fits.
  • Post-cure to achieve intended strength, stiffness, and impact performance.
  • Finish as needed (light sanding, deburring) for smooth motion and contact surfaces.

Supply note (Form 4): Formlabs has announced Durable Resin V2.1 for Form 4 generation printers will no longer be available for direct purchase from Sunday, 31 May 2026, and recommends switching to Tough 1000 Resin V1.

FAQ

1) What should I choose Durable Resin for?

Squeezable prototypes, low-friction assemblies, and jigs/fixtures that experience impacts — especially where you want a polyethylene-like feel.

2) Does Durable Resin need post-curing?

Yes — post-curing is required to reach typical mechanical properties and intended performance.

3) What layer heights are supported?

50 µm and 100 µm are commonly supported for Durable Resin workflows.
