Formlabs Elastic 50A Resin V2 (Form 4)

A soft, translucent elastomeric resin for printing silicone-like prototypes that bend, stretch, and compress — with fast springback, high elongation, and improved transparency for clear, flexible parts.

Formlabs Elastic 50A Resin V2 cartridge
Application: Soft-touch / Flexible prototypes
Technology: SLA (Form 4)
Durometer: 50A class (soft elastomer)
Look: Translucent / clear
Key trait: Fast springback

Important: Elastic 50A Resin V2 requires validated wash + post-cure. For best elasticity and tear strength, follow the recommended process and avoid over-washing.

Silicone-like prototypes with transparency, elasticity, and repeatable performance

Formlabs Elastic 50A Resin V2 is a soft, translucent elastomer designed for parts that must bend, stretch, and compress — then snap back quickly to their original shape.

It’s ideal for developing clear, flexible components normally made from softer rubbers or silicones — including wearable comfort features, compliant mechanisms for robotics, and soft medical models.

Why Choose Formlabs Elastic 50A Resin V2?

Fast Springback

Parts can be bent, stretched, and compressed, then return quickly to their original shape for repeatable cycling.

Transparent / Translucent

Create clear flexible components for visibility into internal geometry, airflow paths, or assembly interaction.

Strong for an Elastomer

High elongation with improved post-cured strength and tear resistance for rugged prototypes that won’t rip easily.

Support Removal Improvements (V2)

V2 is designed for a smoother experience and clearer parts compared with earlier Elastic formulations.

Applications

Elastic 50A Resin V2 is best for soft, flexible prototypes normally produced with silicone or very soft rubber — especially when you want transparency and repeated cycling.

Consider Elastic 50A Resin V2 for:

  • Wearables (straps, seals, comfort interfaces)
  • Compressible buttons and flexible overmold-style features
  • Stretchable enclosures and protective covers
  • Compliant robotics features (grippers, compliant joints, bumpers)
  • Medical models and devices (soft tissue-like prototypes)
  • Special effects props and flexible, clear parts

Need something stiffer? If you want a more rigid flexible material, consider Flexible 80A-type materials instead.

Workflow Overview

Elastic 50A Resin V2 is a print → wash → post-cure workflow. For best elasticity and transparency, keep washing controlled and follow the recommended post-cure method.

  • Print using the Elastic 50A Resin V2 preset for your compatible printer and chosen layer height.
  • Wash using the recommended wash settings, and avoid over-washing (max recommended total wash time is 20 minutes).
  • Post-cure using the recommended method:

Post-cure note: Fully submerge parts in a glass container of water (at least 500 mL) with no air trapped on the surface, then post-cure as specified in Formlabs guidance for Elastic resins.

  • Finish as needed (trim supports, light sanding). For best clarity, minimize surface scuffing and consider gentle polishing approaches appropriate to elastomers.

FAQ

1) What does “50A” mean?

It refers to the Shore A durometer class — a soft elastomer feel suitable for silicone-like prototypes and compliant mechanisms.

2) Do I really need the water submersion step?

Yes — the validated curing method for Elastic resins uses water submersion. It helps achieve intended mechanical performance and surface quality.

3) Can I wash it longer for a “cleaner” part?

No — Formlabs cautions that over-washing can degrade parts. Stick to the recommended wash timing and use fresh solvent if parts aren’t cleaning well.
