Bambu Lab Filament

Bambu Lab PLA Pure Baby Blue

Five ingredients, every one food-contact certified, and cleaner air while it prints.

Overview

Bambu Lab PLA Pure is PLA stripped back to what it needs and nothing else: polylactic acid, an acrylic toughening copolymer, colour pigment, EBS wax and talc. Five ingredients, and every one of them is individually certified to EU 10/2011, the European regulation for plastics that touch food. Most food-contact filaments are only tested as a finished spool; PLA Pure is tested ingredient by ingredient, which Bambu says is a first for the category.

It is also certified to UL 2904 GREENGUARD for 3D printer emissions, so the particles and VOCs it gives off while printing measure below what an average kitchen or living room already has, and to EN 71-3, the EU toy safety standard for materials that get handled and played with. That makes it the PLA to reach for on toys, household tools, cookie cutters, tableware for the kids' play kitchen and anything else that lives close to hands.

Baby Blue is a soft, pale blue. This is the 1 kg filament-with-spool version on Bambu's reusable spool, with the RFID tag the AMS reads to load the right profile automatically.

Printing Parts for Food Contact

The certifications apply to the filament. Whether a finished print is food-contact safe depends on how it is made, so Bambu's guidance for those jobs is worth following: use a fresh non-brass nozzle and keep it for PLA Pure, print on a clean plate without glue stick (raise the bed temperature instead if you need more adhesion), rinse finished parts under running water and dry them, and remember that layer lines mean printed parts are not suitable for liquids. Keep printed parts away from anything above 60°C, and out of the dishwasher.

Certifications and test data are Bambu Lab's published figures for the filament itself. The safety of a finished print depends on equipment hygiene, printing conditions and post-processing. Colour shown is indicative; screens vary.
