Why Choose Formlabs Black Resin V5?

High Dimensional Accuracy

Hit tight tolerances and crisp edges — ideal for form/fit checks, snap features, and assemblies where accuracy matters.

Superior Aesthetics

A rich, matte black surface finish that rivals injection moulding — captures fine features and looks presentation-ready straight off the printer.

Stiff & Strong Performance

A balanced mechanical profile for day-to-day prototypes, housings, and workshop tooling that needs stiffness and strength.

Fast, Reliable Workflow

V5 is formulated to leverage the Form 4 Series for dramatically faster iteration — plus ultra-low odour printing for a more comfortable workspace.

Applications

Black Resin V5 is built for accurate, stiff, strong parts with a premium black finish — ideal when your prototype needs to look like the final product.

Consider Black Resin V5 for:

  • Form & fit prototyping and design validation
  • Presentation-ready models with fine features and sharp text/embossing
  • Enclosures & housings where a matte black finish hides scuffs and highlights detail
  • Jigs & fixtures for light-duty workshop and assembly workflows

What’s new in V5: Designed to print up to 3× faster on the Form 4 Series, with improved mechanical properties and a darker, richer shade versus the previous version.

*Note: Material properties can vary with geometry, orientation, settings, and post-processing. For validated details and the full solvent compatibility table, refer to the official datasheet.

Workflow Overview

Black Resin V5 follows a simple print + wash + optional post-cure workflow. For best results, use the recommended preset and follow Formlabs post-processing guidance.

  • Print using the Black Resin V5 preset for Form 4 at your selected layer thickness.
  • Wash to remove uncured resin (typical reference: 5 minutes in ≥99% IPA in a Form Wash).
  • Optional post-cure to reduce surface tack and improve properties (reference options: 5 minutes at ambient, or 15 minutes at 60 °C in a Form Cure).
  • Finish (light sanding/polish as needed) to achieve a premium matte presentation surface.

FAQ

1) What is Black Resin V5 best suited for?

Form/fit prototypes, presentation-ready models, enclosures & housings, and jigs & fixtures — anywhere you want a crisp, deep black finish and reliable accuracy.

2) Is post-curing required?

Post-curing is optional for General Purpose resins, but recommended to reduce surface tack and improve mechanical performance. Typical reference cycles include 5 minutes at ambient or 15 minutes at 60 °C (Form Cure).

3) What’s new with Black Resin V5?

A new formulation designed to take advantage of the Form 4 Series — printing up to 3× faster than the previous version, with improved mechanical properties and a darker, richer shade.
